Finally, a post that isn't a meme/filler

Been busy lately, but then again you rarely hear people say "Man, I haven't had shit to do lately. Sat around and did nothing for the last couple of days!".

I need to get to a range that will let me shot buckshot. I have two shotguns that I need to pattern about 5 different types of rounds. Everything from 00 buck, 1 buck, 4 buck, and several different slugs. Speaking of shotguns, I know I mentioned it, but GT's has awesome prices on used firearms. If you get a chance, check them out. Because they sell primarily to police they are a bit intimidating, but man, talk about a kid in a candy store.

I also spent some time in the Apple store today. I tried once previously, but the stench of SMUG from the iD10T who was working there drove me out. I decided to suck it up and go get an iPhone. They may be supported by the biggest fanbois in the world, but they do make a decent phone (which is more then I can say for Motorola these days).

Rabbiteach and I did a little hiking this weekend. We went to Wild Basin Wilderness Preserve on Loop 360, and did a short hike. She isn't ever going to be an outdoorsey gal, but it is definately growing on her. I think we would have been the long loop, but we started too late and the heat was getting to her.

In other news, apparently my truck is invisible. Who knew that Dodge had perfected a cloaking device for vehicles. Now if I could only figure out how to activate it (or more specifically deactivate it), as I keep accidentally hitting the cloaking field while I'm out driving. That would surely explain why the 16 yo girl decided that she needed to be in the lane I was in, and decided that instead of waiting for my to go buy decided to pull through me. Fortunately I was able to get out of her way (insert sarcasm where appropriate). In fact, in the space of 6 miles I was nearly involved in 4 accidents, and none of them were my fault. One guy rolled through a stop sign, one person pulled an illegal U turn, and another person turned in front of me. Nothing like what happened to AD, but still it was amazing.

One more little rant. This is Texas. It's Summer. Of course it is going to be hot. If you go outside in the middle of the day, expect it to feel like the surface of the Sun. I can't stand to hear people bitch & moan about the heat. This isn't a surprise, you didn't go to sleep in Canada and wake up in Texas, did you? Then why complain? It only bugs the crap out of those around you.

The happy flu?

The happy flu. Hmm, I'm not sure what it does, except make odd lines.

Two posts in one day?

Slow it down! I'm getting way ahead of myself. I did however forget to mention a new link. Home on the Range! Guns and cooking? Sounds like my perfect day. Not that I have tons of readers (although if you weighed them all together I might be able to hit 2k lbs), but check her out.

Witty post title ... maybe some song lyric or other.

July is always busy, what with my anniversary, vacation, July 4th, my birthday, FIL's birthday, wife's birthday, and BIL's birthday, it is downright insane. Throw in that pesky work thing, and I can barely find time for anything. This explains my lack of BJJ posts (to the delight of some I'm sure), but also puts me in a less joyful mood.

You see, something in the way I was brought up, says that if I am not active in some way or another, I start to get cranky. Before BJJ, paintball was my outlet. I guess I need something that leaves bruises. If I wasn't such a baby, I might be a masochist. Maybe a passive aggressive masochist? I want to be hurt, but am going to complain about it? Anyway, my point was that BJJ makes me a nicer person, and I look forward to training this week since I didn't get to go last week.

The dreamcicle AR is coming along. I had to order a couple parts, that should arrive in a week or two. The lower kit installed easily enough, and was actually easier then I thought. I think I will go with a standard 5.56 upper. That way I can use matching PMags from Magpul (Incidentally, I would love to work for this company. Anyone know anybody who works there?).

I have several pictures I need to take. Two knives, a shotgun, and some old circuit boards I think would make neat macro images. Maybe combine the knives and the boards together. Tattoo is healed (mostly). The peony is still peeling a bit, but has turned more blue. It will need a touchup, but that should be quick, and I will probably have that done when I start the other work. (Down the road, but hopefully this year).

Passed on a pistol

Contrary to popular belief, I'm not made of money. Shocking I know, but I do like to save my pennies for fun things like guns and knives. So, I was very tempted at the Police store on Friday. They had a trade in Smith & Wesson Model 10-5 (a 4 inch .38 Special revolver). I evaluated it based on Xavier's guide lines, and think it was slightly overpriced. Not horribly, and I was still tempted, but I walked away. They wanted $249 for it, and while it locked up tight, the holster wear was a bit much. At $199 I probably would have scooped it up.

I haven't started putting together the AR lowers yet. I 'm goign to start with the Dreamsicle AR first. I'm tempted to pay the $200 tax and make it a SBR (Short Barrel Rifle), so I can put an upper with a barrel less then 16 inches, but want to wait a bit and see if I like it or want to trade it away.

Ink is finished, I'm still pretty sore, but it looks great.

The day after ...

Yesterday's post was way too morose. I will post it later after editing. So, I think I might have become a lightweight. Not in actual weight, but rather in drinking, eating, and smoking.

Last night we went to Hudson's on the Bend for dinner, to celebrate my 33rd trip around the sun. It was scrumptious. I started with the seared Fois Gras. If I ever have to pick a least bite to eat on this planet, hand me a plate of fois gras. For my main course, I had the Ribeye with Guajillo Sauce, and M had the chocolate espresso Elk backstrap. My steak was a bit tough, but flavorful. Her meat was perfect. With dinner, we had a bottle of Spellbound Petite Syrah. A light red, it balanced well with our dinner, as well as the Creme Brulee trio we had for dessert.

On our way home, we decided to look at TVs at Worstbuy. We want a new TV for our bedroom. I'm leaning towards a 42-46 inch LCD from Samsung, but we shall see.

When we got home I lit up a cigar. Last night saw me smoking the Padron 1926 Serie 2. A 5.5 inch box pressed belicoso. It was nice and spicy, and matched well with my Vanwinkle Bourbon. All of that led me to take a couple gas-ex pills and hit the rack around 10:00. I was done.

Back in the saddle agaaaaaiiinn!

Back from a little vacation (Holiday to my foreign reader), and I must say I am refreshed. I cheated a little, I took my Blackberry, but only read emails didn't respond. We flew to Minneapolis, spent a couple days just North of the Twin Cities, then went up to Duluth for a couple days. Cruised around Lake Superior, then back down to Shafer, MN until flying back to Austin on Saturday. I must say, the weather was awesome. I could get used to it, but then again the winters would be brutal. Training while I was gone was lackluster. I didn't try and hit any BJJ gyms while I vacationed (I wanted to let the new tat heal). I'm going to hit it hard this week, I need to drop the 4 lbs I put back on, then go in for color on the tattoo on Sunday. A full review and detail will be available once the color is healed. Suffice it to say, that at this time I am extremely happy.

A couple pictures here, more on the flickr page.

I picked these. Nuttnbunny made them into Strawberry brandy. They help her get through those cold cold winters.

Sparkler boy, before the tragic incident with the sparkle down the boot.

I think next year will be more fun for him, he will be able to stay up later and not get as cranky.
